1. Choose a Location

The most important things you need to consider when choosing a location for your hammock chair are:

  • Practicality – Is it convenient to use in the location?
  • Space – Do you have enough space for the chair to swing and to get in and out of it?
  • Strength – Is the location strong enough to hold the weight?
  • Aesthetics – Does it look nice?

If you want to hang your hammock chair indoors, you’ll need to find the ceiling joists or secure a wooden beam to the ceiling.

You can use a stud finder to find a ceiling joist quickly and easily.

Never hang a hammock chair on drywall, plaster, or plasterboard, unless there’s a joist behind it.

2. Drill Into the Beam

Once you’ve chosen the ideal location, you need to drill into the beam with a power drill using your 5/8 drill bit.

Always drill into the middle of the beam to ensure your hammock chair is secure.

Use a tape measure to accurately work out the center of the beam and mark it with a pencil before you drill.

3. Secure the Swivel

Once you’ve drilled the hole into the beam or joist, find the swivel in your hammock chair suspension kit.

Place the swivel into the hole you’ve just drilled and use a wrench to tighten it.

Turn the wrench clockwise to tighten the swivel.

Make sure you secure the swivel all the way into the beam before proceeding.

4. Attach the Spring

Next, find the spring in your hammock chair suspension kit.

Attach the spring to the end of the swivel.

You’ll be able to hook the spring onto the swivel without the need for any tools.

5. Attach the Chain

Now you need to attach the chain to the swivel.

The chain will have an integrated hook that easily attaches to the swivel without the need for any tools.

Make sure the chain is positioned so the s-hook is hanging at the bottom.

6. Hang Your Chair

You’re almost finished!

Simply attach the ring of the hammock chair to the end of the s-hook.

This will hook on easily without the need for tools.

7. Check it’s Secure

Before jumping on your hammock chair, give it a quick test to check its secure.

Pull on the hammock chair first and monitor any movement.

Then carefully sit on it to ensure it can hold your weight.

8. Enjoy Your New Hammock Chair!

Once you’ve tested that your hammock chair is secure, you’re ready to start using it!

Hop on board and relax in the comfort of your new hammock chair.

Other Ways to Hang a Hammock Chair

If you want to hang a hammock chair without drilling into the ceiling, there are some other options available.

When attaching a hammock chair to a tree outdoors, you can use tree straps or rope to secure it, which are designed to minimize damage to the tree.

Or, if your ceiling isn’t strong enough in your home, basement, or porch to hold a hammock chair, you can get freestanding hammock stands instead.

Why Choose a Hammock Chair Over a Hammock? 4 Benefits of Hammock Chairs

There are so many benefits of getting a hammock for your home – especially if you intend to sleep in it.

But what about the benefits of getting a hammock chair instead?

If you can’t decide between a hammock and a hammock chair, here are our top 4 reasons why a hammock chair could be the right choice!

1. Helps Correct Posture

Normal chairs are stiff. No matter how much we try to sit upright and maintain good posture, it’s all too easy to slump down without realizing. This can be problematic for our backs and can lead to bad posture.

Because a hammock chair ensures you sit upright, it can help you sit more comfortably and with better posture.

It’s why hammock chairs are usually a great addition to a home office, library, bedroom, games room, or living room.

2. Relieves Back and Neck Pain

Hammock chairs are made from stretchy material, which makes them uber comfortable to lounge in!

They also move around naturally when you’re sitting on them. This movement has been known to help reduce stress on your spine and joints, which can relieve inflammation and pain in your back or neck (source).

It’s also why sleeping in a hammock can be beneficial for relieving joint pain experienced during the night.

3. Helps You Relax

Do you like reading before bed? Or watching TV from your laptop?

If so, having a hammock chair indoors provides the perfect opportunity to kick back and relax.

There are so many activities you can enjoy while floating in a hammock chair, like reading, meditating, watching TV, or even napping.

4. Helps You Focus

Do you want the kids to do their homework quicker at night? Or do you want to feel more productive when working from home? If so, get a hammock chair!

Studies have found that the continuous, gentle swinging of a hammock can actually help keep your mind stimulated.

If you (or your kids) need to concentrate, doing your work (or having them do their homework) in a hammock chair can help maintain focus for longer.
